On June 15th, Gemelli's family had to say goodbye to the sweetest little bean. Also known as smelly Gemelli, smelly girl, and smelly belly. I never understood the term "heart rat" until I met her. A heart rat is one you just feel a special bond with beyond all others. Seeing her was always the highlight of my day, she was my absolute best friend. She always knew what kind of mood I was in, and would change her behavior to what she knew I needed in that moment. She is the reason I became a foster for Mainely Rat Rescue to help all other babies in need. Because of this she has seen many sisters come and go, but she's sharing all of her hard boiled eggs with them and playing with them now. As grumpy and sassy as she was, she was always happy to welcome another baby in need into her home. She was the anchor that held the whole rat clan together. I will miss her everyday. I'll miss seeing her little face begging for treats as soon as I walk through the door, our morning and nighttime cuddles, trips to the park, and the annoyed side eye I would get when I tried to clean her face. I will continue to foster in her honor and will continue to give as many rats I can a safe and loving home. Nobody will ever replace her and there will never be another Smelly Gemelli. I love you angel, and I know you're keeping all your sisters in line up there. Until we meet again, sweet girl
